Sudan is facing one of the world’s most severe humanitarian catastrophes.
Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) now in its third year has displaced millions and disrupted essential systems and services that sustain daily life.
In late October 2025, the RSF seized El Fasher, the last army-held city in Darfur, marking a turning point in the conflict and leading to widespread violence (including killings), hunger, and mass displacement.
Some of the impacts include:
Yale’s Humanitarian Research Lab. “This is only comparable to the first 24 hours of the Rwandan genocide.”
Civilians remain trapped amid communications blackouts, surrounded by active conflict and cut off from aid.
Entire communities have been displaced, neighborhoods have been destroyed, and families continue to make dangerous journeys on foot seeking safety and stability.
UN agencies warn that Darfur is nearing total collapse of basic services, as food insecurity, disease, and displacement grow rapidly.
As part of our Sudan Humanitarian Response, HCI and partners are delivering life-saving food and hygiene kits to families displaced by the fighting.
