The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has partnered with Human Concern International (HCI) to combat human trafficking, people smuggling, and irregular migration in the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Supported by a $250,000 project, the initiative aims to protect vulnerable refugees at risk of exploitation.
The partnership will deploy mobile protection teams to raise awareness, support survivors, and strengthen community-based protection. It also focuses on enhancing coordination between local authorities and humanitarian organizations to ensure consistent protection across all 33 camps.
IOM Bangladesh Chief of Mission, Lance Bonneau, emphasized the initiative’s goal of providing refugees with reliable protection services. Mahmuda Khan, Global CEO of HCI, highlighted the importance of faith-driven humanitarian efforts to safeguard refugees.
This partnership complements IOM’s broader counter-trafficking efforts in countries like Sudan, Libya, and Ukraine, reinforcing global efforts to protect vulnerable populations.
